About the activity

You are welcome to join our historical Via Ferrata climb, combined with staying the night in a hanging tent 400 meters above the fjord.

You meet our guides a the Tysso I powerplant down by the fjord. The adventure starts with a visit to 'Kraftmuseet', a guided tour where you get an introduction to the pioneer work of building the waterpower constructions more than 100 years ago.

The via ferrata leads you up the mountain along the massive penstocks, a great way to learn about the local history and get a real feeling of the working conditions for the Rallar/construction workers that installed the penstocks in these steep mountain walls.

Once you reach camp, your guide will show you around the area. You then have time to enjoy this beautiful piece of Norwegian nature and take a wander around.

Dinner is prepared at camp and served by the bonfire – if the weather allows for it. You spend the evening with stories and amazing views before you climb down into your tent hanging on the cliff side 400m above Sørfjorden overlooking Folgefonna Glacier.

After a night out in the wilderness, breakfast is served before you hike back to civilization.

The so-called portaledge tents were developed by professional climbers for multi-day climbs.
Since you are accompanied by an experienced guide, you don’t need prior climbing experience – just a good sense of adventure!

Weather

In Norway there is a saying that “There are no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”.  Sometimes the bad weather turns out to be the most special: It is more mysterious, it creates a spectacular light play between the sun, clouds and rain, it makes you feel alive.

The weather here on the west coast changes fast and therefore we only rely on the weather forecast 1-2 days ahead of the tour. We hope for the best but prepare for the worst conditions.  A good tip is to use the onion look: layers that can easily be taken on and off to adjust your temperature.

If the “bad weather” is so bad that we consider it as dangerous we cancel the tours. We will inform you in case of cancellation. Please read our cancellation policies for more information.
